Riding the Waves

Stephen Houpt

This is an instrumental album. My aim was to create music that is soothing and meditative but also innovative. I think I accomplished that. Most of the tracks are played on either a 1927 Weissenborn or a 1942 Oahu squareneck through a 1957 Gibson GA-20 amp. Two tracks are acoustic only, played on a Regal Dobro.

This is my fourth album in the last four years. I play a 1927 Weissenborn on five tracks and a Tony Francis Weissenborn on the other five tracks. All songs are original. Chirag Gokani plays Fender Precision bass on six of the songs. He is an incredibly talented musician. There are four instrumentals. Michelle Stroescu sings on two tracks, and I sing on four tracks. This music is genre-defying, but it is beautiful, relaxing, and meditative.

I play original acoustic lap style slide guitar, Weissenborn and National tricone..

This album is a combination of blues and folk style instrumentals and songs played on a 1927 Weissenborn and a modern National tricone, acoustic lap steel slide guitars. I wrote the lyrics to some of the songs and the music to all of the songs except Forty days and Forty Nights. That is a song by Bernard Roth, sung beautifully by Amy Harms. All of the songs with lyrics (except Forty Days and Forty Nights) began their lives as poems. The instrumental that begins the album was written about the time Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher died, hence the title. The lyrics for Zendo Crickets were written by my old friend, Todd Jeffries. The lyrics for three of the songs were written by Chinese poets of the 8th and 11th centuries Pei Ti, Wang Wei, and Li Ching Chao.

Hey Neighbor

Stephen Houpt and Amy Harms

These songs are poetry set to music, performed with beautiful vocals and 1927 Weissenborn acoustic lap steel slide guitar.

All the songs on this CD were originally poems. Many of them were written at times when I was going through heartbreak and loss. Others are a celebration of life. Some are both. I wrote all the music on this CD. Amy Elhoff

All the songs on this CD were originally poems. Many of them were written at times when I was going through heartbreak and loss. Others are a celebration of life. Some are both. I wrote all the music on this CD. Amy Elhoff Harms is the vocalist on nine of the songs and Amy and I sing the other four songs together. Amy actually was my neighbor. When she moved in across the street, my musical life changed. I could not have written these songs without her inspiration and support. I play a 1927 Weissenborn hollow neck acoustic lap steel guitar on eleven of the songs, a 1935 dobro on “A Relationship Sandwich”, and a 2013 Lazy River Weissenborn on “A Man Entranced”. -Stephen Houpt
